President
|
Lynne Wach |
|
My name is Lynne Wach and will be serving as the San Jose Unified Council PTA President for the 2008-2009 school year. I have been involved in PTA for the past 8 years, most recently as the Los Alamitos PTA President. I have had the time of my life "working" at my sons' school and look forward to helping each unit have the same kind of experience. Our theme for the year is Be an Essential Piece. I heard a great story told by a guy who gave a sermon while I was visiting my family in Virginia recently. He spoke about his life being not just successful, but that he had been significant. I would like us to aspire to do the same for all children through PTA.
Our San Jose Unified Unit PTAs work with parents, teachers, and administrators to enrich school programs and offer to support in a variety of ways. The Council PTA is here to help each unit be as successful and significant as they can possibly be! One way we’d like to help is through membership to the PTA. If you need help with your membership drive, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will work hard to get you the help you need.
On this site you will find a short bio of each board member. We wanted you to have a little background about the person you are dealing with for your specific need. They are a terrific group!
On behalf of the San Jose Unified Council PTA Executive board, we look forward to a fantastic year. Please join us at each Council PTA meeting where you can get information to help you make your PTA strong as well as get any needed support.
Please feel free to contact me, or any member of the PTA board, if you have questions or comments concerning PTA.
Here’s to everyone being an Essential Piece! |

I've been active at schools and PTA for 26 years now, and it's been a wonderful part of my life. My three children went through Carson, Steinbeck, SJHA and/or Gunderson and now even the college expenses are behind us. And I'm a grandma!
I have found my niche, and Council is where it's at! Along with the Council and helping Sixth District PTA with the out-of-council units, I am still a volunteer at Carson, our wonderful neighborhood school. I also do part-time work at the school district office and sometimes at Terrell.
The Cryer newsletter is a work of pleasure, and I'd love to talk to any of you who work on your own school newsletters or would like to participate on the Cryer please contact me.

Irene Paquet |
|
My name is Irene Paquet. I am originally from the Netherlands, but have lived in California for 11 years. My three sons are at Simonds Elementary, in 1st, 2nd and 5th grade. After having co-chaired many events at Simonds for several years, last year was my first year as PTA President and I am looking forward to continuing in that role for the 2008-2009 school year. At Simonds, I am also part of the web site committee, which is why I figured that helping with the Yahoo! Group would be perfect as my contribution to the Council.

Parent Education

Susan Gaydon |
|
Hi, my name is Susan Gaydon and I am happy to be serving on the PTA Council Board for a second term as V.P. of Education. I have been a parent at Williams Elementary School for 9 years now and my youngest son is entering 4th grade. I also have a daughter going into 7th grade at Bret Harte and my first son going to high school at Leland in the fall. I have been active on the PTA at Williams for several years, most recently as President for two years and prior to that as Secretary. I have also served on many committees and chaired several events.
This year, in addition to my duties on the Council Board I will also serve as Chair of Parent Education at Williams. My goal is to help not only Williams in its efforts to find educational opportunities for parents, but to be of help to other SJUSD schools as well through my Council position. Last year Carol Pecora of the Board implemented a web page on the Council site which contains information shared by some of our area schools. If you need some ideas, you can check out the website at sjucouncilpta.org. We'd like to expand the web page this year to include not only speakers but other educational opportunities available through PTA, the school district, etc. Your ideas and input would be most appreciated, and you are welcome to contact me directly with your questions or ideas. PTA is always stronger when we work together!
Have a great PTA year!

Peggy Hertzberg |
|
My name is Peggy Hertzberg representing Allen at Steinbeck K-8 School. I have three children. My oldest will be attending Castillero and I have two children attending Allen at Steinbeck K-8 School.
My role will be PTA President for Allen at Steinbeck K-8 School. I am also the 5th Vice President, Convention for San Jose Unified Council of PTA. I had the opportunity to attend the PTA State Convention in Long Beach, California in May of 2008. I believe in the goals of the PTA Convention Commission. PTA is a continuous learning process. To make progress is a willingness to accept the challenge of change, to learn and to grow in knowledge, skills and experience and participate in the business of the organization. I look forward to attendees from San Jose Unified School District to attend convention April 30-May 3, 2009 and learning valuable information to benefit their school and our community.
My previous PTA experience has been Historian, Hospitality, Vice President of Communications. I have also chaired the Box Tops for Education program, The Uniform Closet, the Fall Family Festival, Spring Egg Hunt, Staff Luncheons and have worked on committees for Walk-A-Thons, Multi-Cultural Day and various classrooms needs.
I look forward to continuing to be an advocate for children by volunteering at school, through Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and the YWCA of Silicon Valley. I look forward to seeing that every moment is a learning experience so one day when all of my children have grown up and moved out of the house; I can say that I helped make a difference to help them become productive members of society and I helped make a difference in the community where I live.

Brandy Varni |

| I am married with 2 boys (incoming freshman at Pioneer and incoming 3rd grader at Los Alamitos). I spent 6 years on the Los Alamitos PTA Executive Board. I will be serving as the Secretary for the Council PTA this upcoming school year. I look forward to meeting new people and contribute to this year's board.

Treasurer
|
Marie Boyle |
|
I have a daughter, Elizabeth, who will be a senior at Gunderson High School, and a son, Patrick, who will be an incoming freshman at Gunderson High School. I have been involved in PTA for about 12 years. The friends and acquaintance that I have met during this time have been amazing.
I held the position of Treasurer and Auditor for Carson Elementary School each for two years. While at Carson, I served on SJU Council as Treasurer. Both
of my children attended Bret Harte Middle School, which had a parent club. I served as Treasurer for years on that board. Lastly, I have held the position of President for Gunderson High School PTSA for the past two years. Last year, I also returned to the SJU Council as Auditor. This year my position at Council will be Treasurer.
As you can see from my various volunteer positions, they all seem to have something in common (Finance). I have been working in the accounting field since college. I am an accountant for a builder /developer and I really enjoy my job and numbers come very easy to me.
If you have any questions or need help, please feel free to contact me. Anytime, I ever had a question while serving, the council was always there to help me, I hope that I can be there for you as well.
