Welcome to the website for the San Jose Unified Council of PTAs. Whether or not you have a student in the San Jose Unified School District, you are welcome and encouraged to become a member of one of our local units. If you are unable to attend meetings and volunteer at that school, your membership still shows your support to them and also in the work and legislative advocacy done at the council, district, state and national PTA levels in our mission to be a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child. If you are interested in joining PTA, please get in touch with us, and we will assist you in contacting your local school unit.
The council’s number one job is to support our units, and we take that job seriously. Each unit has a council board mentor, but the unit president and other officers and chairs are welcome to contact anyone on the council board with questions or concerns. And the beauty of PTA – if we don’t know an answer, we can contact our counterparts at Sixth District PTA (Santa Clara County) for assistance. As a council we want to help make PTA jobs easier for our unit officers and chairs. Officer and committee leadership trainings are available from 6th District PTA twice a year, at the California State PTA conventions once a year, and on an on-going basis from the council.
Our website contains The Cryer Newsletters, the official newsletter of the council. They are full of wonderful ideas for parent programs, fundraisers, financial due dates, etc. Our webmaster also keeps our list of forms updated that will help units fulfill their nonprofit 501(C)(3) PTA and State of California financial obligations.
I am enjoying being council president this year – it is actually my second go around, as I was council president years ago when my three children attended SJUSD schools. I’ve continued to be involved with SJUSD volunteer work and the PTA, because I believe in it and I enjoy it!
